June News Briefs
Thunderbird faculty in Harvard Business Review
On the heals of April's Harvard Business Review article "Making it Overseas," by professors Mansour Javidan, Mary Teagarden and David Bowen, Thunderbird thought leaders are continuing to make a splash in HBR. On June 4, Lincoln Center Director Gregory Unruh wrote a piece addressing the oil spill in the Gulf titled BP, the Gulf, and the "Great Externalization". Unruh and Professor Richard Ettenson also had a piece published titled "Growing Green" about the growing trend of "green" branding in corporations across the globe. Finally as part of a six-week blog series about how leadership might look in the future, President Ángel Cabrera wrote a piece in May titled "The Soul of Leadership" in which he discussed the future of an oath of honor for the business industry. Mission Possible Update: Gifts on the rise, more needed by June 30
In the last newsletter we asked you to show your love for T-bird and to help maintain our strong ranking by making a gift to raise our alumni giving participation rate. Thanks to your efforts, more than 250 gifts have been received since May 10, which raised our giving rate one percentage point to 13 percent. In order to reach our goal of 15 percent, we need 536 new alumni gifts by June 30. Our participation rate says a lot about the strength of the T-bird community and shows that alumni care for and appreciate their alma matre. Foundations, corporations and major donors often place a high value on broad alumni participation when evaluating where to give their resources. Every 297 alumni gifts, no matter the size, raises our participation by 1 percent, which can make the difference in winning multi-million dollar gifts. Please make your gift today at www.thunderbird.edu/mygift or call 602-978-7309 (M-F; 8-5).

"Remember Me" feature added to Thunderbird lifetime e-mail

This allows users to check the "Remember Me" box and be logged in to MTB and Lifetime E-mail web pages for up to seven days. Simply close the browser when you are finished, instead of clicking "logout." For more information, see http://help.thunderbird.edu/portal-login/remember-me.

Thunderbird European Regional Reunion
Join Thunderbirds from across the world for the European regional reunion in Bad Ischl, Austria, September 16-19, 2010. In addition to the many events, a reception will be held at the Kaiservilla in Bad Ischl where the first-ever reunion was held in 1982.
Registration for the weekend will be capped at 250 participants so be sure to register early.
"The legendary stories from past European reunions in Bad Ischl embody the true spirit of the Thunderbird mystique," says Aleksandra Lubavs '91, president, Thunderbird Alumni Network. "For any alumni aspiring to reconnect with their Thunderbird memories, this event can't be missed!"
The three-day reunion will be hosted at the Hotel Villa Seilern in Bad Ischl. Guests can reserve accommodations in the city center of Bad Ischl here. Friday events include a business forum with guest speakers and an afternoon excursion to Halstatt.
On Saturday, guests will meet at the historic Kongresshaus where tour buses accompanied by guides will transport the group to the Basilica in Mondsee, on to St. Gilgen to board a boat for a ride to St. Wofgang, and to the cog-wheel train up the Schafberg. After descending the Schafberg back to the shores of the Wolfgangsee, the group will be shuttled to a rustic mountainside chalet for a "Heimatabend," an evening featuring traditional Austrian food, music and folklore and dancing.
On Sunday, guests will be treated to an open-air concert at the Kongresshaus before departing.
Alumni Charlie La Fond '80, John Cook '79, Alan Mueller '81 and Pavel Kriz '70 are organizing the European regional reunion. Contact Charlie La Fonde with questions at c.lafond@clfc.eu.
