New editors release first edition of Das Tor

Das TorThe first edition of Das Tor, Thunderbird’s re-designed student newspaper, was released under new co-editors Salome Mehta, Brittany Smith and Aaron Wilder in mid-April. The team plans to produce four issues per trimester in print and electronic formats starting in the fall. The team will focus on three goals for the paper: rebuild and sustain brand equity, become financially self-sufficient, and establish standardization and continuity for future editorial teams.

To get Das Tor back on solid ground, the school will assist the paper in the funding of the spring and summer 2008 issues. The editors also slashed advertising prices and established promotional initiatives to become more financially stable. Businesses that purchase four ads in the paper will now receive two additional ads for free. And businesses that purchase two ads will receive the third one at half price.

While each of the new editors has responsibilities with writing, editing and layout, all three have other responsibilities at the paper. Mehta is the office coordinator who has primary responsibility for the paper’s finances. Smith serves as the paper’s advertising director, and Wilder serves as public relations director. He is the first point of contact for students interested in writing articles.
