Thunderbird welcomes you!
The following information can help make your admission & application as stress-free as possible.

Application Requirements for Admission

Thunderbird is an international business school that embraces diversity among its students and faculty. In fact, it is this diversity that contributes, in large part, to enriching the learning environment that advances Thunderbird’s mission.

Application Documentation

  • A completed application form. Classes fill up quickly, so it is important you submit your application before the required deadlines.

International students should make every effort to apply no later than the April application deadline to help ensure enough time for processing your Visa.

  • Three personal essays responding to application questions. An Admissions Interview may be substituted for your first essay – a good idea to consider, as Thunderbird takes pride in working to ensure the school is a good fit for you, and that you are a good fit for the school. A one-on-one interview can help make this determination.

  • GMAT and TOEFL test scores.

The median GMAT score range for the past several entering classes has been 550 to 760 with a class average of 600. There are many determining factors that go into accepting a student, but your GMAT test score is one way Thunderbird can assess your educational foundation for advanced study in its MBA program.

The minimum TOEFL score is 250 on the computer based test/100 on the Internet based test. Applicants who meet all other admission requirements but score low on the TOEFL may complete the Thunderbird PreMBA or PreMasters 10 week intensive English program as a substitute for the TOEFL.

  • Two letters of recommendation, preferably from a professional colleague or supervisor

  • All official transcripts, validating completion of a four-year degree or equivalent.

  • A current, sequential resume of educational and professional accomplishments.

  • An application processing fee of $125.

Language Requirements for Admission

Proficiency in a second language is not required for admission, except for international students who must show English proficiency by submitting the TOEFL score as part of the application documentation. Thunderbird courses require that students whose native language is not English have an excellent proficiency in reading, writing and speaking English.

Applicants whose native language is not English, and who didn’t receive a qualifying degree in a country where English is the native language, are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language TOEFL.

Scholarships

A number of scholarships, fellowships and grants are available to entering Thunderbird students who present outstanding credentials in all evaluative areas of the application, as a means to help develop the most talented and diverse student body, thereby enriching the learning experience.

Thunderbird evaluates all highly-qualified entering students for scholarships during the admissions process. Selection is based on the documentation submitted with your application.

Professional Work Experience

Admission to Thunderbird’s MBA in Global Management program requires both academic excellence and professional work experience. However, acceptance is based on an overall review of all of your credentials.

Admission is not based solely on whether you have a professional background in a specific field of business or that you have international experience, but rather, it is a comprehensive review.

Thunderbird students come from around the world – from more than 60 countries – and have lived in many places and have varied personal and professional experiences. Thunderbird students encompass many categories. For example, there are those who have international experience with no other prior business skills; those with business skills looking to move into an international work environment; and those with international business skills who are eager to advance their careers in their chosen field of work.
