Online Round

Where will your ideas take you?

The Online Round of the Thunderbird Sustainable Innovation Summit begins October 6, 2008, and is the first step of the Challenge. It is conducted using the Challenge Web portal. In this round, Teams will compete against each other on a randomly assigned sponsor question. This process helps maintain fairness across different Challenge questions.

The Challenge, Online Round: October 6, 2008 at noon, AZ time*

  • Challenge questions are randomly assigned during Final Registrations.

  • The challenge question and any related information will be released online to all teams and judges on October 6, 2008 at Noon, AZ time*

  • Teams MUST submit their two-page Innovation Plan and optional supporting graphic illustration online by Noon (AZ time*) on October 12, 2008.

  • Judges will be assigned 10 Innovation Plans, which will be released to them for judging online on October 14, 2008, at 12 Noon, AZ time*.

The Challenge, Online Round Judging: October 14 to 21, 2008

The Online Round Judging is conducted using a 100-point Scorecard. The judging phase uses a double-blind process to ensure that judges are not aware of the team identity until after their scores have been submitted.

After the judging phase teams will be able to view their full scorecard from each judge, including any comments.

Judges will be able to view their full scorecards for each team, including any comments.

  • October 14 to 21, 2008 — all teams will be assigned three to five judges comprising of sponsor executives, industry experts, and academic leaders, and experienced professionals.

Judges MUST submit their scores and comments no later than by Noon AZ* time on October 21, 2008.

Each Team will be ranked based on the average of all scores received.
  • October 22, 2008 — an equal number of the best teams from each sponsor question will be invited to the Final Round, with Final Round invitations extended to exactly 10 teams.

The number of teams selected from each question is calculated by dividing the total number of final round finalists (10) by the number of sponsors. In case of a remainder in division, the balance number of teams will be selected in ranking order based solely on their final average score, regardless of their question.
