Known for its breathtaking desert views and enticing weather, Arizona has much to offer.

Phoenix Area

Thunderbird's main campus is located in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, the fifth largest city in the United States. This urban hub provides students with access to countless cultural, educational, professional and recreational opportunities. The business and cultural hub of the Southwest, Phoenix is home to corporate and regional headquarters for companies including Intel, Dial, Avnet, PetSmart, US Airways, Honeywell and Boeing. Thunderbird provides an ideal learning climate, but you’ll have plenty to choose from when you want to take a break from your studies.

Outdoor Activities

The beautiful weather and unique surroundings provide a wealth of outdoor activities for you to enjoy. Average temperatures in the Phoenix area range from 85 degrees Fahrenheit, to average lows of 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Although it gets very warm during the spring and summer months, it’s a very dry climate with low humidity making it quite different from what you’d experience in somewhere like the Midwestern part of the country.

The great temperatures and sunny skies make it easy to head outdoors and hike or bike on the many scenic trails and mountains or golf on one of more than 200 beautiful courses. You can also jump in the saddle and go horseback riding, or swim or try other water activities—although situated in the Sonoran Desert, there are five lakes within a 45–minute drive of Phoenix.

The Grand Canyon, one of the world’s most amazing natural creations, is about a four–hour drive north from Phoenix, offering extraordinary views, hiking, camping opportunities and a dramatic change of climate. Another of Arizona’s amazing spots to visit is Sedona. Only a two–hour drive from Phoenix, you’ll discover the remarkable red rock formations, hiking trails, state parks, galleries and spas that have made Sedona such a breathtaking attraction.

Spas, shops, and restaurants

If outdoor activities aren’t your thing, consider visiting one of the world–class resorts and spas Phoenix is known for. If you have an artistic eye, visit an art gallery, museum or antique shop you’ll find all across town. Interested for the latest trends or fashion? You’ll find it all at one of many chic malls and boutiques. And when you need to refuel, head to a local restaurant—from upscale to the neighborhood favorites, you’ll find all types of food that include local Southwest flavors to international delights.

Sporting events and out–of–town excursions

Phoenix has professional sporting teams to cheer on, including the Arizona Diamondbacks (baseball), the Phoenix Suns (basketball), the Arizona Cardinals (football) and the Phoenix Coyotes (hockey). When you’re ready to get away for a weekend, San Diego’s beautiful beaches and Pacific Ocean, and the bright lights and bustle of Las Vegas are within driving distance or a quick flight from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
