Your partnership with the Career Management Center (CMC) starts even before orientation week. It begins when you 'virtually' meet your CMC career advisor and receive an initial assignment that becomes part of the Career Management Seminar – a required, non-credit course on the career search. Your relationship with your career advisor continues throughout the Thunderbird experience. |
The CMC works diligently to prepare you with strategy, tools and techniques to successfully manage your career. We also offer a broad range of programs and services to assist you with career development and job searches. These include:
The CMC maintains a large electronic library, via the International Business Information Centre (IBIC), which provides resources to students anytime, anywhere. Career resources include:
One-on-one coaching sessions with Career Advisors in person or via telephone are designed to help you with any aspect of career management, including: articulating your skills and strengths, improving your résumé writing, and perfecting your interviewing and salary negotiation skills.
Working directly with your CMC advisor, you will have access to résumé samples and will learn to market yourself effectively through your résumé as part of a holistic career management strategy.
This program provides extra preparation and is considered a "rehearsal" for the real thing. Mock interviews are conducted by CMC staff, other Thunderbird staff and alumni. Critique sessions follow the interview, where you receive immediate feedback on your performance.
Students may access job opportunities through Thunderbird's career management portal, GlobalConnect. GlobalConnect allows students to convey their qualifications and interests to prospective employers, store multiple résumés, view job postings that fit your specific qualifications and interests, create job search agents, apply for positions, and schedule interviews online.
Taught by CMC staff and guest lecturers throughout the school year, specialized workshops at Thunderbird's Glendale campus provide a deeper understanding of such topics as interviewing, changing careers, industry areas, etiquette and networking. These workshops are often recorded and made available in webcast format for easy access when you can't make it to campus.
The Career Management Center partners with third-party résumé book provider MBA Focus to provide convenient résumé access to employers interested in recruiting Thunderbirds. Thunderbird Executive MBA résumés are viewable in a working professionals database alongside other graduate business programs by recruiters from top organizations across the nation and world.
With the CMC, there is no need to worry about missing out on career updates while you're in class or at the office. Each week during the regular school trimester, the CMC publishes an e-newsletter to keep you current on the latest career events, opportunities, and resources at Thunderbird.
