Distance Learning MBA student profile Carlos Herrero

Despite his already extensive international experience, Herrero says his choice to seek a Global MBA from Thunderbird was based on the school's international reputations and his desire to further strengthen his global knowledge. "I am applying Thunderbird lessons every day as I face intercultural scenarios at work," he says.

Carlos Herrero '10

Carlos Herrero '10 has been able to accomplish what most only dream of: melding his hobbies and interests with his full-time job. A competitor in triathlons and an avid runner, swimmer and biker, he's able to take that enthusiasm for fitness into the workplace as a territory manager at Life Fitness.

"We manufacture top-quality fitness equipment, which translates to people being able to feel good through living a culture of health and fitness," says Herrero. As territory manager, he's responsible for sales in the Latin America region and supporting local dealers and customers in each country.

Because - during various times of the year, Herrero spends up to 60 percent of his time traveling (mainly to Mexico, but also to Argentina, Chile, and throughout Latin America and the United States), he needed an MBA program that would capitalize on his international presence without interrupting his work. He found the perfect fit in Thunderbird's Global MBA for Latin American Managers program.

Currently a resident of Miami, Fla., Herrero is no stranger to the international scene, having lived in his native country of Venezuela, as well as Spain and Colombia.

Executive positions with Black & Decker were responsible for his global movement and fed his global curiosity. In Venezuela, Herrero was an end-user specialist for Dewalt power tools, and in Spain, he was responsible for an event marketing team that supported the company's commercial team through Dewalt power tool sales and market penetration. He coordinated sales for the company's commercial accessories line in Columbia before moving to Miami as a trade marketing manager and later a business development manager for Stanley Works hand tools in the Latin America Division. From there, he moved on to Life Fitness and new global opportunities.

Despite his already extensive international experience, Herrero says his choice to seek a Global MBA from Thunderbird (and Latin American partner institution Tecnologico de Monterrey) was based on the schools' international reputations and his desire to further strengthen his global knowledge. "I am applying Thunderbird lessons every day as I face intercultural scenarios at work," he says.

The end result may just be Herrero's ability to integrate yet another hobby into his work life: global travel. My goal, he says, is to be able to have an international assignment with Life Fitness.
