Admissions Standards & Requirements

It's time to begin your global journey. To ensure your Thunderbird/IUKD Dual Degree experience is successful, certain admissions standards/requirements must be met - both academically and technically. Requirements are detailed below.

Admissions Standards & Requirements

Admission Packet

Once you apply online, you must submit:

  • Your score from the GRE Revised Test (taken after Aug. 1, 2011) or your GMAT score (average 600)
  • TOEFL English language exam if you did not graduate from an English-speaking university (minimum paper-based score 600 — minimum computer-based score 250)
  • Proof of achievement of an undergraduate degree
  • Non-waivable $185 application fee

For a more complete list of required materials see how to apply.

Required Evaluation

Admission is offered if we believe you can succeed within the Thunderbird-Indiana University Kelley Direct Dual Degree program, and excel in your chosen career. Applications are assessed based on a qualitative evaluation of the documents you provide. Once your application is complete, it is evaluated by the Admissions Committee at both institutions for a final decision.

Required Admission Notification

Admission decisions are made within 5-7 weeks. Applications received after the priority deadline are considered on a space-available basis. A space in the class is not reserved until the tuition deposit of $3,300 is received.

Visa Requirements

For the on-site seminars in Indiana and Arizona, foreign nationals are required to obtain a B-1 visa. For the on-site seminar in Beijing, students are required to obtain a Chinese visa. Please check with the consulates of these countries to verify the process for obtaining a visa based on your citizenship.

Requirements for Returning After a Leave

Students must meet the graduation requirements specified in the program catalog in effect at the time of admission, provided their studies are not interrupted by an absence of more than one term. Students returning after an absence of more than one term must follow all regulations in effect for students entering in that class. Returning students will be expected to pay tuition and fees in effect at the time of their return.

Graduation Requirements

Dual Degree graduation requirements must be completed within five calendar years of a student's initial enrollment. Courses completed earlier than five years before the effective date of graduation may not count toward degree requirements.

Conduct Requirements

As a student in the Dual Degree program, you are preparing for a career in which you will probably be given supervisory responsibilities at a senior corporate level. You are, therefore, expected to demonstrate maturity, self-discipline and ethical behavior throughout your period study. The School may cancel your registration at any time for conduct inconsistent with the maturity expected of an international executive. As a Thunderbird student, you must abide by the Thunderbird Honor Code, available on the website.

Grade Requirements

You must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0. If you don't, you will be placed on academic probation for one term. Failure to achieve a 3.0 minimum cumulative grade point average after one term on academic probation will result in your dismissal from the program. (Once filed with the Registrar's Office, all grades are final and not subject to change by because of a revision in the instructor's judgment. Changes may be made only to correct an error in computation or transcription.)

PC Hardware Requirements

To participate in the program effectively, you are required to have an up-to-date computer system and related software. Your computer must have Internet access for course information, as well as interaction with faculty, other students and program administration. Selected course materials may be distributed on CD-ROM — so your computer must be multimedia compatible. Your PC must meet or exceed the following standards:

E-mail Requirements

You are responsible for maintaining a useable e-mail address server. Occasionally, e-mails "bounce back" to the program administration because of insufficient storage to receive incoming e-mail. Sometimes this happens because the receiving server has limited storage capacity and/or the user has saved too many e-mail messages. Because of this issue, it is recommended that your permanent e-mail address have a minimum storage capacity of 10MB.

Thunderbird will provide you with an e-mail account that will meet this standard.

Personal Computer Software Requirements

The Microsoft Office 2003 software and Windows XP are used in most courses and you must be proficient in their use. Therefore, you must have the most current versions of Internet Explorer, MSN Messanger, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access installed on your computer. You are also responsible for Internet provider access fees and access fees to on-line research.

Please Note: Program policies are subject to change at any time. The Thunderbird-Indiana University Kelley Direct Dual Degree program reserves the right to make whatever changes it deems appropriate in terms of course scheduling, assignment of instructors and prerequisites.
