Professor Katia Kinney is Brazilian, a native of São Paulo countryside. She studied Language and Literature at the Universidade de São Paulo. She also studied Economic Development and Latino America Studies at Universidade de Havana, Cuba.
She has been teaching Portuguese for Speakers of Spanish and Portuguese Business Language at Thunderbird - The Garvin School of International Management since 2002. She is currently working on a project that is creating a phonetic file of the Portuguese Language at Arizona State University. Katia has taught Portuguese Literature for most of her life, her passions are languages and culture.
She has lived in Arizona since 2002, with her husband Chuck and Gifty, their dog.
She has two daughters, Ana, who lives in Milan, Italy, studying Macro Economics at Luigi Bocconi, and Alice, a student of visual arts, who lives in Brazil. They come to Arizona twice a year during vacations.
