As Executive Director of Thunderbird Executive Education, Joe Patterson is responsible for Thunderbird’s entire portfolio of certificate programs, which includes the Thunderbird Online division, Thunderbird International Consortia programs, and Open Enrollment programs. Ranked #14 in the world by the Financial Times, Thunderbird Executive Education’s comprehensive library of certificate programs contribute to the development of working professionals in more than 100 countries. In his current role, Joe is responsible for the development, marketing, sales, and delivery of all non-degree online and classroom-based certificate programs and custom online and blended executive development programs delivered throughout the world.
Joe oversees a large custom executive development portfolio focusing on clients across the entire global oil and gas industry value chain. He also leads marketing, sales, and program delivery teams supporting more than 20 corporate clients in a variety of industries and regions. In his capacity as a senior executive education leader, Joe also serves as the head of global marketing for Thunderbird Executive Education. Joe is the first ever recipient of Thunderbird’s Enterprising Spirit Award which recognizes innovative leadership and intrapreneurship.
Prior to joining Thunderbird Executive Education in 2007, Joe led Thunderbird’s MBA Global Recruitment team. Joe’s work with Thunderbird and corporate clients has taken him to over 20 different countries on four continents, including Brazil, Russia, India, and China.
Prior to joining Thunderbird in 2005, Joe served as an Operations Team Leader for McKesson Corporation. At McKesson, Joe led three large client support teams, designed and implemented Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, and managed cross-departmental implementation teams to launch customer support programs for pharmaceutical companies such as Glaxo Smith Kline, Novartis, Amgen, Janssen, and AstraZeneca.
Joe earned a Global MBA and Executive Certificate in International Management from Thunderbird School of Global Management, and a B.A. in English from Arizona State University. He is also an alum of Penn State University’s Institute for Emerging Leadership in Online Learning.
Joe is an avid supporter of youth sports programs and has been a volunteer youth football and basketball coach for years. He lives with his wife and four sons in Peoria, Arizona.
