Global Communications Essentials

Communicate Across Cultures

The success of a global organization, like Cirque du Soleil, is dependent upon the strength of its workforce, including the ability to effectively communicate across cultures. Whether the cross-cultural communication takes place in the form of a face-to-face, small group interaction, or electronic, effective cross-cultural communication can strengthen an organization, while the lack of it can lead to the organization's demise.

In this course, Communicating in a Global Environment, you will examine the key issues, skills, and modes of communicating across cultures. Corporate examples and action learning strategies will be integrated throughout the unit to illustrate and emphasize important aspects of global communication.

Specifically, after the completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the ways in which our world is changing and the impact on global organizations
  • Identify key issues of cross-cultural communication
  • Employ effective cross-cultural communication skills
  • Compare various modes of global communication that foster a collaborative environment, improve productivity, and enhance cost savings
  • Examine guidelines and tips to improve effectiveness and productivity of cross-cultural meetings; and create an action plan to enhance global leadership skills and behaviors
