Sr. Financial Analyst

POSITION PURPOSE: The Sr. Financial Analyst partners with business unit managers and executives to develop accurate budgets and operating forecasts. Develops, interprets, and implements complex financial and accounting concepts, or techniques for financial planning and control. Coordinates with all levels of management to gather, analyze, summarize, and prepare recommendations regarding financial plans, acquisition activity, new business planning, and trended future requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with business unit managers and their support staff to create annual budgets and periodic forecasts.
  • Use analytical business modeling concepts to determine appropriate pricing and costing of programs and functions.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for senior management and the board of trustees.
  • Coordinate with accounting staff to ensure accurate financial results, and provide variance analysis from budgets and forecasts.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Provide financial data to business unit managers and executives in preparation of internal and external reporting and client proposals.
  • Implement new financial controls and workflow processes as needed.
  • Additional duties may be assigned at the discretion of the manager to meet business objectives and this job description is not intended to be all inclusive.
  • There is no budget accountability for this position.

Experience/Education

  • Requires working knowledge of commonly used concepts, procedures and practices within finance and accounting. Experience with preparing financial statements and reports.
  • Ability to create complex financial models, and perform high level analysis.
  • Ability to understand and work with cost accounting and cost allocation principles.
  • Requires intermediate skills in Microsoft Word and Powerpoint, and advanced skills in Excel, as well as working knowledge of financial reporting and budgeting software.
  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5+ years experience, or Master's Degree and 3-5 years experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.

Communication

The position requires the ability to communicate complex business concepts and analytical results both in writing and verbally to both individuals and large groups. Requires the ability to communicate with Executive and Senior levels of staff as well as faculty members.

Contacts

Daily contact with other Finance department personnel. Regular contact in person, by e-mail and by phone with EVP, VP’s and department managers to lend financial support on issues or analysis related to budgets or other finance department functions. Weekly to monthly contact with operational and support personnel through meetings and email. Occasional contact outside the School with consultants, and institutional partners to exchange necessary finance information, verify compliance with contracts, etc.

The position has no supervisory responsibilities.
