Senior Director - Employer Relations

This is a leadership and relationship management position requiring significant internal and external client interaction and accountability for service/program delivery. This role will have significant impact on the evolution of the school and its ability to service student and employer stakeholders:

  • In collaboration with AVP and Directors, set strategy for Employer Relations (ER) activities based on market and trend data
  • Lead and manage Employer Relations team
  • Develop and foster relationships with key recruitment decision-makers of organizations to create employment opportunities or other networking connections for the Thunderbird community
  • In partnership with Thunderbird colleagues, proactively engage students to maximize job search activity and employer interaction

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strategically analyze and assess world geographies regions and respective international and local companies for targeted employer business development activity in order to meet needs of students from multiple programs.
  • Identify and assess corporate contact programs, outreaches, successes and failures to design appropriate short and long term marketing strategies that will advance the school in matching graduates to companies.
  • Develop and account for success in using personal leads and leads from targeted employers, alumni, Faculty, Corporate Learning, job postings, industry conferences, networking events and other sources.
  • Survey and interpret employer trends and feedback in order to develop employer relations programs relevant to MBA market, Thunderbird employers and /or CMC process and program improvement. Lead and execute plans.
  • Benchmark across the MBA school community best-practices, trends in the employment market and employer recruiting practices. Provide recommendations on decisions regarding technology, subscriptions, vendors and CMC direction.
  • Collaboratively create and implement engagement programs with ER and CA& E teams to address both strategic and tactical issues for companies to capture candidate mindshare.
  • Partner with the Career Advising and Education Director to develop best strategies and processes around employer needs and candidate matching. Partner with appropriate industry, regional, and/or functional student groups to assist in planning and delivering career related activities or programming.
  • Manage external communication strategy to employers in conjunction with CMC Manager, Client Services and Communications.
  • Manage collection, calculation and reporting employer recruiting statistics (visits, successes, postings, interviews, hires, etc.). Provide data to AVP as required and distribute aggregate data to CMC and other audiences as required.

Experience/Education

  • MBA level degree from an international business school strongly preferred; marketing knowledge a big plus. Second language and international experience preferred.
  • Ability to strategically assess skill levels and requirements for success at multiple levels within multi-national companies, and small and medium size enterprises.
  • Significant exposure and experience in working with senior executives, advanced graduate degree, MBA and Executive MBA students in talent assessment and hiring processes.
  • 10 years of work experience in managing high volume corporate university relations or university recruiting program and/or experience in employer relations in a business school environment required.
  • Experience developing and managing business development or sales campaigns with clearly defined targets and accountability for goals.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in sales, marketing, or recruiting. Knowledge of the entry level MBA market for related industries and functions required.
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to diverse cultures.

Communication

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of and interest in latest related technology including social networking platforms as part of the job search.
  • Role requires public-speaking and presentation capability in contexts including sales, education or training, and workshop development and facilitation.
  • Ability to host and dialogue with senior C-level executives.
