Archivist, Thunderbird Archives P/T, 20 Hrs/wk

The archivist is responsible for managing the archives of the school, processing materials, planning for space and storage, creating/finding aids and maintaining records and databases for cataloging materials. Serves as the school’s historian and develops expertise in the documents, photos, objects and other materials that represent the school’s historical record. Provides assistance to users, both internally and externally, promotes the use of the archives and works with campus units to collect and save materials that document activities and progress of the school. Collects and handles records in various formats, including digital and paper.

Required

  • Degree in history or related discipline, and/or a library/information science degree.
  • Knowledge of archival principles of preservation, storage, organization, access and use.
  • Ability to work independently, and collaborate when appropriate.
  • Must work well with people, communicate well and relate to the needs of users.
  • Computer skills including the ability to work with software (Access, Word, Excel) and archival technologies (photo scanning and storage, others).
  • Experience working in archives, processing and organizing archival materials, creating records and assisting users with archival materials. 
  • Must be able to organize and retrieve materials, keep large collections orderly, and maintain accurate records.

Must be able to push a loaded library book cart to move boxes and handle lifting up to 25 lbs. Must be able to stand on a stool or ladder to reach to the top shelves of standard library shelving. 

Desired

  • Experience in academic higher education.
